Nina Hets. Mosaic of fate. Part 3.
“Choreography is a thought, a fantasy brought to life.”
Continuing the story of my path in the art of choreography, I would like to share my view of some of its directions.
In 2000 I entered the choreography department of the Kyiv National University of Culture, from which I graduated successfully. It so happened that my group included young people who introduced me to a direction that can be described as Slavic choreographic culture. I have always been interested in the history, culture and traditions of different peoples, especially the Slavs. Being more a practitioner than a theorist of dance culture, I mastered various dance practices. One day, while studying Slavic Vedic culture, I discovered Slavic women’s gymnastics and felt something especially close and dear to my soul and body in it.
Now I share my knowledge with people. Slavic women’s gymnastics is intended for those who need health to enjoy life and live it to the full. This form of gymnastics is very democratic and suits women of any age. The movements are simple and performed at a slow pace; they do not tire you, but allow a woman to feel every cell of her body. Moreover, such gymnastics has a positive effect on female physiology. During the exercises the internal muscles and organs develop, blood circulation improves, and the internal and external organs are massaged … Slavic women’s gymnastics is very old; its secrets were used by our ancestors.
I am undoubtedly proud of our productions of the modern musicals “Children of Svarog” (based on Slavic Vedic history) and “In Search of Happiness” (inspired by Irish culture), as well as many other profound programmes that are educational in terms of national cultural traditions. Ukrainian choreographic culture, Ukrainian folk and contemporary dance hold a special place in the ensemble’s work.
On 7 April 2019, on the stage of the Tallinn Cultural Centre “LINDAKIVI”, “KOLOR” gave a triumphant performance of an original dance programme in two thematic directions: historical (“The Count of Monte Cristo”) and folk (“Treasures of the Estonian Land”), dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Estonian state, together with the Caucasian dance ensemble “TEREK”, the oriental dance ensemble “LuXoR”, the vocal studio of the Tondiraba hobby school and Mustjõe Gymnasium.
In 2014 I began studying psychotherapy, mastering transnational therapy and hypnotherapy, which allow you to get to know not only yourself but also those around you. Methods based on psychological knowledge help me a great deal in my work.
I design training programmes that allow in-depth study of choreography, dance history and the deep emotional side of dance. A thought or fantasy brought to life works a real miracle. In this way my working method helps my students develop more deeply.
I make the costumes for our productions myself and have recently mastered machine embroidery. As a result, the latest costume designs are my own original works. It is truly a creative process that gives rise to extraordinary feelings.
Together with the ensemble I want to create ever newer productions and master new directions in our work. We know that by using our potential we will certainly achieve an excellent result and bring joy to our audience, whom I sincerely thank for their support and kindness towards our art and every member of the “Kolor” ensemble.
Thank you all, and see you in the concert halls!
Happy anniversary, dance ensemble “KOLOR”!
