Across the River and Into the Trees movie screening | Tallinn

The Ukrainian Cinema Club in Estonia invites all Ukrainians in Estonia and Estonian friends to watch the film Across the River and Into the Trees (2022), directed by Paula Ortiz and produced by Tribune Pictures. The screening will take place on 21 June at 13:00 at Sõprus Cinema (Vana-Posti 8, Tallinn).

We are honored to welcome the film’s producers to Tallinn for this occasion. The film will be personally introduced by Robert MacLean, CEO of Tribune Pictures, and Lucas Paletta, Associate Producer at Tribune Pictures. Following the screening, guests will have the opportunity to engage in a discussion with the producers, ask questions, and learn more about the creative process behind the film.

This event is organized as part of the research project “Hemingway’s War Narratives in Film Adaptations (WARinFILM)”, led by Tallinn University researcher Ruslana Dovhanchyna and supported by the Estonian Research Council.

Based on Ernest Hemingway’s novel of the same name, the film tells the story of American Colonel Richard Cantwell, who confronts the memories and war trauma while experiencing a profound late-life romance in the atmospheric setting of post-war Venice. The film explores one of Hemingway’s enduring themes: maintaining dignity, courage, and control over one’s life in the face of adversity.

The leading role is performed by Liev Schreiber, the acclaimed American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer, who has received six Golden Globe nominations. Schreiber, who has Ukrainian heritage, has visited Ukraine on several occasions since the beginning of the full-scale invasion and serves as an ambassador for the UNITED24 fundraising platform. The actor co-directed and hosted the full-length documentary “Meeting with Zelensky”.
