I. Lysiak-Rudnytsky Ukrainian Studies Support Programme

The aim of the Programme is to spread knowledge about Ukraine abroad, support the development of Ukrainian studies and promote Ukrainian topics among international experts and the general public.

Legal entities, their units, NGOs and think tanks registered outside Ukraine and working in culture, education or science are invited to take part. Legal entities resident in Ukraine cannot apply. The Ukrainian Institute welcomes cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign institutions, but only the foreign institution
may submit an application to the Programme.

The competition is open to projects implemented abroad, aimed at foreign audiences, in the following formats:

  • translations of academic and popular-science texts from Ukrainian into foreign languages;
  • publication of original texts on Ukrainian topics in foreign languages;
  • public discussions and lectures (including online);
  • conferences and round tables (including online);
  • production and distribution of online content (publications) on Ukrainian topics to achieve the Ukrainian Institute’s goals;
  • writing and publishing reviews of publications on Ukrainian topics.

The project must be implemented and a report submitted by 30 November 2022. Accordingly, the Programme can support only short-term (one-year) projects or projects in their final stage. The indicative project budget is EUR 15,000–20,000

How to apply?

To apply, send to academic@ui.org.ua an email with the subject “Project_Programme_Lysiak_Rudnytsky_”

Please attach the following documents:

  • application form (using the template);
  • project proposal;
  • project budget with detailed and justified costs (using the template);
  • a statement on the legal entity’s letterhead that none of the applicant institution’s founders are subject to sanctions under the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” and decisions of the National Security and Defence Council (using the template) (scanned copy of the signed document in PDF).

Applications and documents are submitted in Ukrainian or English.

Application deadline: 27 March 2022 , 23:59 Kyiv time.

The results of the competition will be announced in mid-April 2022.

Important:

This list of documents is only for taking part in the competition. After the results are announced, to conclude a contract under Ukrainian law, the winners must provide a copy of their statutes or other founding document and the legal entity’s registration document, fill in forms provided by the Ukrainian Institute and send the signed originals by post to the Institute’s physical address. The budgets of all winning projects will be reviewed before the contract is signed to check that costs are justified and comply with Ukrainian budget law.

One legal entity may submit no more than two applications. At present the Ukrainian Institute cannot make advance payments under Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 641 of 22.07.2020, so payment will be made after the project is implemented, on the basis of an Act of Services Rendered. Depending on the project’s structure and whether it makes sense to divide it into stages, payment may be made in stages: after each stage is completed and confirmed by reporting documents and an Act of Services Rendered for that stage, it is paid for. If the contract terms are not fulfilled or are fulfilled improperly, payment for the previous stage must be returned.

Applicants’ documents are accepted in Ukrainian or English; however, please bear in mind that official paperwork in Ukraine is conducted only in Ukrainian. Projects must be implemented by 30 November 2022. This means that all activities, including communications, must be completed by that date.

Winning projects are financed from Ukraine’s state budget solely as a result of the relevant procurement procedures, through a bilingual (Ukrainian and English) service contract between the Ukrainian Institute and the winner in accordance with current Ukrainian law, using a template provided by the Ukrainian Institute.

Please note that this is not grant support but a contract for the provision of services.
