Dear friends! We invite you to a screening of the historical film "The Legend of Princess Olga," which will take place on the occasion of Ukraine's Independence Day as part of the Ukrainian Cinema Club in Estonia on August 24 at 15:00 at the Sõprus cinema.
The screening is organized by the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia, and in cooperation with the NGO "Nareshti" and Philip Illienko.
"The Legend of Princess Olga" is a two-part historical drama directed by Yuriy Illienko. The film premiered on February 27, 1984. In a poetic form of chronicles and legends, the movie tells the story of Princess Olga, the ruler of Kievan Rus at the end of the 9th – early 10th centuries. The story is narrated through the perspectives of three different characters: the monk Arepha, the chamberlain Malusha, and her grandson Vladimir.
In 1984, the Dovzhenko Film Studio was forbidden to produce a Ukrainian-language version of the film, and only the Russian-language version was released: the Soviet authorities at the time decided that Olga and Vladimir could only speak Russian. The Ukrainian dubbing of the film was made in 2015, 31 years after the film's release.
The Ukrainian-language version of Yuriy Illienko's film "The Legend of Princess Olga" had its all-Ukrainian premiere on ICTV on August 24, Ukraine's Independence Day, in 2015.
The translation of the film was supported by the State Film Agency of Ukraine, the Dovzhenko National Film Studio, the ICTV channel, and KWA sound production.
Entrance is by your charitable donation to support Ukraine.
We look forward to seeing you there!
