Yesterday, as part of the Ukrainian Film Club, we presented a new project – the Children’s Film Club, which will operate in various towns of Estonia! The screening was organised by the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Estonia together with the Ukrainian Youth Association in Estonia, with the assistance of FRESH PRODUCTION GROUP and the support of the Integration Foundation!
The opening film of the club in Tallinn was the knightly fantasy tale “Prince Korolevych’s Squire” (“Dzhura Korolevych”).
The audience was welcomed by the coordinator of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Estonia, Diana Orlytsia, who greeted everyone and spoke about the work of SUM and the first screening of the club:
“The Ukrainian Youth Association in Estonia is a civic organisation that is almost 100 years old; SUM branches have spread across many continents: Europe, South and North America, Australia. We unite Ukrainian children in emigration so that, while far from their native land, they all grow up as patriots of Ukraine.
I invite you to our meetings and cultural events!
Today we are incredibly happy that you are opening the Ukrainian Children’s Film Club in Estonia together with us!
At the children’s film club, our main guests are children!”
Our friends from the Spilno_ee library, who since the start of the full-scale invasion have been running initiatives that bring adults and children together around reading books in Ukrainian, told us about their children’s conversation club, shared reading and creative sessions, meetings with Ukrainian and Estonian writers and, of course, wonderful books!
Children and their parents were also addressed by Anastasiia Kozachok, chief choreographer of the Ukrainian song and dance group “Volya”, and Oksana Kuts, founder of the KOLO children’s reading club in Tartu, who shared information about the activities of their creative groups and invited everyone to join.
After the screening, our audience could also support an important initiative: the Ukrainian Youth Association in Estonia joined the fundraiser “Warming Hearts with Warmth”, which is taking place all over the world! In Canada, the USA, Spain and the UK, everyone is coming together to raise funds for children in Ukraine whose parents have been killed or are fighting on the front line.
Thanks to you, 254 euros and 100 hryvnias were collected. The money will be used to buy warm clothes and shoes, school supplies, books and toys, which the children will receive as gifts for the winter holidays.
We are very pleased that the screening drew a full hall – so many children and adults interested in new films and animation in Ukrainian! Thank you for supporting the development of Ukrainian culture and language even outside your home country.
We are very grateful for your feedback, and next time we will be sure to highlight the age ratings indicated in the film descriptions.
Thank you to Kino Sõprus for its hospitality!
Thank you to the team and everyone involved in organising the screening!
