Unity of peoples and cultures

On Sunday, 20 February 2022, members of Estonia’s Ukrainian community celebrated the birthday of the Republic of Estonia and thereby expressed their support for Ukraine, which for the eighth year has been waging a fierce struggle for its independence and its right to choose its own path.

Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia Leonid Tretiak thanked the Estonian people for their all-round support of Ukraine throughout its independence, and especially after the Maidan events of 20 February 2014. Chairman of the Riigikogu Foreign Affairs Committee Marko Mihkelson wished Ukrainians strength and determination in defending the freedom of their country.

Artists from Estonia, Ukraine and Canada took part in a joint concert that was warmly received by the audience.

The Estonian-Ukrainian ensemble “Sviata Vatra” together with Rute Trochynska united the multicultural audience with the very first sounds of music. Estonian opera soloist Olena Brazhnyk captivated the audience with her wonderful voice. The exciting show of Estonian musician and troubadour Silver Sepp with his unusual instruments got the audience singing and moving to the beat. The Ukrainian-Canadian band Balaklava Blues, witnesses and participants of the Maidan, sent a musical video greeting. After the long pandemic period, the children of the Ukrainian Sunday school “Nadija” and the choreographic ensemble “Kolor” also had the opportunity to perform for a large audience.

The evening was concluded by the dance ensemble “Kullaketrajad” and the lively folk group “Yevshan-Zillia” from Zaporizhzhia, led by Viacheslav Vinchura.

The organisers sincerely thank all the performers and participants of the concert for their wonderful performances.

The event was organised by the Congress of Ukrainians in Estonia, the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Estonia and MTÜ Kultuuride ristmik with the support of the City of Tallinn.
