On 15 March, Tallinna Liivalaia raamatukogu hosted a special event – the music and poetry production "Words That Unite Centuries", prepared by pupils of the Ukrainian Sunday school Nadija Kool.
The children recited poems by Taras Shevchenko, putting their souls and their sense of the times into them. There were both classic works by the great Kobzar and contemporary reflections on what Shevchenko would be like today.
The musical part of the event featured a bandura ensemble and opera singer Karyna Amirkhanian, music director of the Nadiia school's children's choir.
A special moment: Oleksandr Kushnir, Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Estonia, took part and gave a speech, and presented Karyna Amirkhanian with an award for her contribution to the development of Ukrainian culture in the diaspora.
It was a day when Shevchenko spoke again through the voices of the young generation, reminding us of the importance of our culture, language and the struggle for freedom!
