October at the CYM weekend school: history, myths and Polissia dances

Every Saturday, the weekend school of the Ukrainian Youth Association in Estonia (CYM), a member organisation of the Association, meets in Tallinn. Here is what pupils covered in recent weeks.

• Ukrainian history — the beginning of the Ukrainian national revival and notable Ukrainians past and present.
• Ukrainian studies — ancient Ukrainian creation myths and their symbolism, and the theme of home in the work of Halyna Kyrpa.
• Ukrainian language — spelling, letter combinations and how to structure an argumentative text.
• Dance — the work of the Pavlo Virsky Ensemble, everyday folk dances of Polissia and movement coordination.
• Singing — solfège, the basics of music theory and preparation for upcoming performances.
