Today Ukraine commemorates the millions of Ukrainians killed by man-made famine. It was not a natural disaster – it was genocide, the carefully planned extermination of an entire nation by a totalitarian regime.
According to official data, the Holodomor claimed around 4 million lives. But the true figure will never be known. Decades of silence and destroyed archives make it impossible to establish all the names.
In 2006 Ukraine officially recognised the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. More than 20 countries have supported this decision.
The famines of 1921–1923 and 1946–1947, repressions, deportations, mass executions. Today – Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. The goal remains the same – to destroy the Ukrainian people, erase our identity, our will and our right to our own state. But Ukrainians stood firm then. And they will not break now.
We remember not numbers – we remember people. Their names may not be in the archives, but their stories must not disappear.
The world must know the truth.
