Ukrainian traditions unite: from motanka dolls to the prypynda

Ukrainian traditions unite: from motanka dolls to the prypynda

We promised more creative gatherings – and we are keeping our word.

A little over a month ago, we met for the first time for a workshop on making the traditional Ukrainian motanka doll. There was so much warmth, sincere conversation and creativity that at the end everyone asked: “Let’s do it again!” So we decided that gatherings like this must continue.

On 24 October 2026, our second creative workshop took place. This time the participants learned the macramé technique and made a Ukrainian prypynda – a stylish accessory that brings traditional Ukrainian motifs together with modern fashion.

The workshop was led by the talented craftswoman Tetiana Kharuzheva. It might seem simple – a few threads, some knots and a bit of imagination. In fact, making a prypynda took almost four hours, yet nobody noticed the time passing. While hands carefully wove the patterns, the room was full of conversation, jokes and laughter, and new friendships were made. Participants shared stories, helped one another and celebrated every small creative success.

The result exceeded all expectations. Colourful, bright and unique, the finished prypyndas will now remind everyone not only of their own creative achievement, but also of the warm hours spent together.

Special thanks to Tetiana Kharuzheva – for her time, patience and generosity in sharing her knowledge, and for inspiring everyone to believe in their own creative abilities. Thanks to her, even those trying macramé for the first time went home with wonderful results. And of course, thank you to every participant for such a warm evening.

The most valuable thing about these gatherings is not even the handmade items, beautiful as they are. It is that we once again find time to be together: to take a break from everyday worries, to speak our native language, to feel supported, to smile and to enjoy creating together. Because Ukrainian traditions are not only what we preserve from the past. They are what we continue to create today – together, even far from home.

What’s next

Our next workshop will be a special one – it will be dedicated to Christmas. We are not revealing all the secrets yet, but we promise it will be interesting. Follow our announcements so you don’t miss the next creative gathering.

We want these workshops to become a good tradition, so your wishes matter to us. Which workshops would you like to attend? What would you love to learn or make with your own hands? Write to us – we will take your ideas into account.

Let’s create, connect and preserve our traditions together!
