Vodohray community in Sillamäe hosts talk on labour rights, taxes and legal residence

In October, the Vodohray Ukrainian community in Sillamäe, a member organisation of the Association, hosted the information session “Those who don’t know the law grope in the dark”. It is part of a series of free events run by the Estonian Labour Inspectorate (Tööinspektsioon) to help Ukrainians and other foreign nationals understand Estonian law and their rights.

The speakers were Olena Smolska (Labour Inspectorate), Eva Lennuk (Sorainen law firm) and Oksana Finogenova (Police and Border Guard Board).

  • Employment. The differences between an employment contract (tööleping), a contract for services (töövõtuleping) and a mandate contract (käsundusleping), the guarantees each provides and how they affect health insurance.
  • Taxes. Taxation of wages, tax residency and filing a tax return.
  • Living and working. Types of work and residence permits, residence cards, extending temporary and international protection, and the conditions for long-term residence.

Similar sessions are held in other Estonian towns — see the schedule on the Tööelu portal.
