Vyshyvanka Day in Paide: a celebration in Lembitu Park and aid for Ukraine’s defenders

On 18 May 2024, the Ukrainian community “Spogad” held a celebration in Lembitu Park in central Paide dedicated to the vyshyvanka, the embroidered shirt that serves as a Ukrainian talisman and a symbol of family memory and national pride. The “Rytm” choreographic group performed for local residents: the youngest dancers showed the “Ukrainian Hopak”, and the adults performed the “Rushnyk” dance. Embroidered clothing, patriotic balloons and a photo corner set the festive mood.

One of the main goals of the day was to collect food and essentials for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition to goods, 185 euros were raised. Of this, 103 euros went on extra supplies and the rest covered delivery, while the carrier donated the remaining 60 euros towards drones. The parcels were delivered to front-line positions in the Kupiansk and Bakhmut directions and have already reached their recipients. The community published a photo report with receipts and thanks the carriers and everyone who packed, bought and escorted the aid.

The newspaper Järva Teataja also covered the event and published a large photo gallery.
