February 2024 in Paide: a friendship meeting with seniors and a day of remembrance

On 17 February 2024, the Paide Seniors’ Day Centre (Paide Eakate Päevakeskus) hosted a friendship meeting with Ukrainians. Ukrainian performers opened the concert, followed by the centre’s own singers and dance group. Everyone then had tea together, and the meeting ended with a joint dance in which the young Ukrainian women learned Estonian dances. The organisers from Järvamaa Vähihaigete Ühing described it as an exceptionally warm gathering.

On 24 February 2024, the second anniversary of russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Ukrainians in Paide honoured the memory of those killed and lit candles. On the same day, the community gathered to watch “Eastern Front”, a documentary by filmmakers from Dnipro. The film has been screened in 16 countries and premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.
