The Ukrainian Art Studio MRIJA, a member organisation of the Association, held a pysanka (Ukrainian decorated egg) workshop in Kohtla-Järve on 28 March. The event was part of the city's integration project, organised together with Sõprade Kodu MTÜ (House of Friends).
Workshop leader Yevheniia Ohu explained how pysanky were made in the past and what the traditional symbols and ornaments mean. Participants then applied wax to the eggs with traditional styluses, line by line, dyeing them step by step in different colours.
For most of them it was the first attempt, yet everyone went home with a unique egg of their own, including those who claimed they could not draw. The organisers highlighted the warm and cosy atmosphere of the meeting just before Easter.
