MRIJA studio donates books on Ukrainian pysanka to a Tallinn library

The Ukrainian Art Studio MRIJA, a member organisation of the Association, has kept the promise it made in spring: part of the money raised at its pysanka workshops was spent on specialist literature. The books have arrived in Estonia, and the first two copies have been handed over to the Tallinn Centre for Foreign Language Literature (Liivalaia 40).

The book is Vira Manko’s «Ukrainian Folk Pysanka», often called the pysanka makers’ «bible». The author has practised the craft since 1986; the expanded second edition contains more than 800 patterns from all regions of Ukraine, together with explanations of symbols, ornaments and techniques. It is published in Ukrainian and English, so Estonian and other readers interested in Ukrainian traditions can use it as well.

The gift was received by librarian Victoria, who will help readers find the books. The studio also thanked Anastasia, who helps with buying and shipping literature and materials.

More photos are on the MRIJA studio Facebook page.
