Volodymyr Kravchuk, the lead actor of "U Are the Universe", awarded the title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine!

Friends, tomorrow we look forward to seeing you at the screening of "U Are the Universe"!

We have already written about why this film is worth seeing, and yesterday we received more wonderful news: by decree of the President of Ukraine, actor Volodymyr Kravchuk has been awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine.

So that is one more reason to come and see his outstanding performance on the big screen.

Who is Volodymyr Kravchuk?

A Ukrainian stage and screen actor whom many remember from comedy projects, including "Mamakhykhotala". Even before the full-scale war, he deliberately began to broaden his acting range and moved to the theatre stage.

It was the theatre, in particular the Kyiv Academic Theatre of Drama and Comedy on the Left Bank of the Dnipro, that became his space for deep dramatic work.

As the actor himself admits: "My dramatic range grew and took shape in the theatre, while working on performances."

Actor and soldier

At the start of the full-scale war, Volodymyr Kravchuk joined the defence of Ukraine, serving as a machine gunner in the 87th battalion of the 106th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade. He deliberately did not tell his comrades about his profession – he did not want any favours or special treatment.

"So that there would be no talk that he probably doesn't dig trenches or stand guard. And somewhere deep inside, I thought back then that I might never return to my profession," Volodymyr recalls.

Today he continues to serve as a war correspondent for Army TV, holds the rank of junior lieutenant and combines military service with work in theatre and film.

"U Are the Universe"

In this film, Volodymyr Kravchuk essentially carries the whole story – an intimate, very human story about loneliness, loss and hope after a catastrophe. His character is alive, ironic, vulnerable and free of excessive pathos.
The main character's language deserves special attention: the Ukrainian here is not textbook Ukrainian but the real thing – lively and emotional, becoming part of the humour and of our closeness to the character.

Come tomorrow to meet contemporary Ukrainian cinema and Andriukha (Volodymyr Kravchuk), whose personal story resonates with each of us today.
