As part of the Children’s Film Club in Estonia, which started in October, screenings were held of the feature film “Ivan Syla” and the animated films “Tsar Plaksii and Loskoton” and “The Stolen Moon. Kum”. Director, screenwriter, actor, writer, producer and Honoured Artist of Ukraine Viktor Andriienko came to Tallinn in person to present the films!
The screenings were organised by the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Estonia with the support of the Integration Foundation and the Estonian Ministry of Culture.

Viktor Andriienko’s film “Ivan Syla” received the Lesya Ukrainka Prize in the category “Best film for children and young people” and, by decision of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine, was included in the school curriculum; it is regularly shown to young audiences on small and big screens in Ukraine and other countries!
The director told how and where the filming took place, shared interesting facts from the life of the prototype of the main character – Ivan Firtsak, the strongest man in the world in the early 20th century – and explained how the film’s stunts were created.
After the screening the director talked with young viewers, who asked him questions and were curious about his creative success. Parents who remember and appreciate Viktor Andriienko’s work also came. The audience did not want to let the director go, and the conversation continued backstage at Kino Sõprus, where the Ukrainian Film Club screenings traditionally take place!
The screening of the cartoons “Tsar Plaksii and Loskoton” and “The Stolen Moon. Kum”, as well as the presentation of the children’s book “Legends of the Enchanted Forest” by Viktor Andriienko and Olena Shulha,
took place at the Tallinn Central Library (Tallinna Keskraamatukogu).
The story of “Legends of the Enchanted Forest” was based on the script of Viktor Andriienko’s film of the same name, whose production was suspended because of Covid and the war. The illustrations were created by the well-known Ukrainian artist Oles Yusypchuk, and the characters were based on Ukrainian actors: Brodnik was modelled on Vasyl Virastiuk, and the image of the Molfar Bazyka was inspired by Vasyl Bendas.
Viktor told the children how he and Olena Shulha worked on the book, presented scenes from the future film “Legends of the Enchanted Forest” and vividly showed how animated characters are created and cartoons are voiced!

Representatives of the Spilno_ee library attended the book presentation, and Viktor Andriienko gave them signed copies of “Legends of the Enchanted Forest” and “The Crazy Adventures of Flint the Parrot”!
Then there was a group photo and many orders for delivery of “Legends of the Enchanted Forest” to Estonia.
Thanks to Volodymyr Slobodian for the photos!
