The Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia is 2 years old!

The Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia is 2 years old!

On 25 February 2023 we could not even imagine that the Ukrainian Film Club in Estonia / Ukraina kinoklubi Eestis would gain such momentum and spread across all of Estonia!

In this time we have screened 30 films in towns across Estonia: Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu, Narva, Saku, Kuressaare, Valga, Võru, Sillamäe and Kohtla-Järve!

Regular screenings take place in Tallinn at the iconic Kino Sõprus and in Tartu at Elektriteater, and from time to time in Narva at the Central Library and in Pärnu at Endla Theatre.

As a rule, all the films shown to our audiences over these 2 years are contemporary cinema, which keeps growing its output despite the war.

We screen all films in Ukrainian with English subtitles. For some films we also produce Estonian subtitles!

In addition, last year the film club ran the project "Estonian Cinema for Ukrainians", in which Ukrainians could get to know 7 Estonian films for which we produced Ukrainian subtitles.

This project made us want to introduce Estonian cinema to even more Ukrainians, which is why "Estonian Film Days" will take place in Ukraine this year – and we are immensely happy that we managed to organise them!

Over the life of the film club we have welcomed many distinguished and well-known guests: ambassadors of foreign countries, Estonian politicians, officials, parliamentarians, and cultural and public figures from Estonia and Ukraine!

All our screenings are charitable, and we are immensely grateful to all the guests who over 2 years have donated money for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and Ukrainian civilians as part of the aid provided by the Association of Ukrainian Organisations in Estonia.

I want to thank all the film club's supporters, the Ukrainian production companies that provide us with films, the iconic Kino Sõprus, which has hosted us for 2 years, and everyone who helps promote Ukrainian cinema around the world!

This is very important now! Because it is through film that we can tell the world the truth about Russia's war against Ukraine, the genocide of the Ukrainian people by Putin's criminal regime, and the heroism of Ukrainians who for 3 years now have been fighting for their freedom and the right to be independent on their own land!
