Speech by the President of Estonia at the YES-2024 conference

The President of Estonia, Alar Karis, expressed a firm intention to continue supporting Ukraine during his speech at the YES-2024 conference (Yalta European Strategy) dedicated to the theme “The Necessity to Win”.

“russia must lose the war in Ukraine. This requires resolve and a long-term contribution from all of us. We must continue to supply the weapons we want to Ukrainian military leaders; I said YES at the Yalta European Strategy Forum in Kyiv.

True, no single weapon alone can change the course of the war overnight, but together all these weapons can significantly affect what happens on the battlefield. It also means that we must drop all restrictions on the use of these weapons. Any such restrictions are artificial and senseless. They force Ukraine to fight with one hand in a situation where the fight against the aggressor is already unequal.

Ukraine pays for these sanctions every day with human lives. Iran and North Korea impose no restrictions on russia’s use of its weapons.”
