“Ukraine, we are with you!” – that was the message from the Estonians of Tapa Parish in the Lääne-Viru region.
Creative groups from every small town and village in the region, together with leading Estonian cultural figures born here, are gathering people who care about the dramatic events in Ukraine to support each of our compatriots morally and materially. The series of charity concerts continues.
On 13 March 2022 such a concert took place at the spacious House of Culture in Tamsalu. Well-known Estonian performers Siret Tuula, Elina Born (a Eurovision contestant), Toomas Krall, Reigo Tamm (soloist of the Estonian National Opera), Teno Kongi and the dance group of the local house of culture… performed for a full hall. Everyone held a small Ukrainian flag, and a Ukrainian blue-and-yellow ribbon fluttered on their chests…
Ukraine was represented in the programme by its citizens and patriots – ten-year-old schoolgirl Anhelina Molodchyn from Kremenchuk, who had arrived in Tapa with her mother to visit her aunt a few days before the war began. Anhelina turned out to be a talented, musically gifted girl with a wonderful voice, and she and her mother decided to support their country at least in this way by joining the concert.
On behalf of the Ukrainian community, Liubov Laur thanked the Estonian people and state for their incredible support for her homeland Ukraine in the fight against the enemy and performed the beloved Ukrainian song “Two Colours”…
Tapa Parish Mayor Valdo Helmelaid addressed the audience, stressing that the Ukrainian people’s fight against the enemy today is a warning for the future to Estonians, who once experienced occupation.
The next concerts in support of Ukraine in our region will take place on 20 March 2022 at 14:00 in St James’s Church in Tapa and on 24 March 2022 at Tapa Kultuurikoda with pupils and teachers of the local music school. Friends, watch for announcements.
