On 1 March 2024, Ukrainian children in Paide took part in the quiz “10 Interesting Facts about Ukraine”. It opened with Volodymyr Sosiura’s poem “Love Ukraine”, and the children went on to guess the outline of their homeland, the number of regions, the world’s largest aircraft “Mriya”, the oldest Ukrainian word found in the chronicles, the centre of Europe in Zakarpattia, the Oleshky Sands, the Optymistychna cave and the carol “Shchedryk”. On small flags, the children wrote where they come from and pinned them to a map of Ukraine. At the end they made Estonian and Ukrainian flags and talked about what the colours mean. The activity was led by Olena Semelit and Olena Mukhina, and the children received books as gifts.
On 9 March, Taras Shevchenko’s birthday, the children recited his poems. Each participant received a certificate of thanks and a souvenir from the community, and the song “The Wide Dnipro Roars and Moans” was performed.
