Nadiia School Students Raised the Ukrainian Flag with Estonia’s Foreign Minister in Tallinn

On 24 August 2026, Ukraine’s Independence Day, a ceremonial raising of the National Flag of Ukraine took place outside the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tallinn.

This year, the event held special significance for the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia. Together with Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, the blue-and-yellow flag was raised by Nadiia Ukrainian Sunday School students Ilariia Chervinko and Nazar Klymenko.

The national anthems of Ukraine and Estonia were performed during the ceremony by Nadiia School teacher Karina Amirkhanian.

Representatives of the Embassy of Ukraine in Estonia, the diplomatic corps and the Ukrainian community also attended the event.

A Symbol of Remembrance and Continuity Between Generations
The children’s participation in the ceremony was especially symbolic. For Ukrainians living outside their homeland, it is essential that future generations know the Ukrainian language, history and culture, remember their roots and feel that they are part of the Ukrainian people.

For this very purpose, the Nadiia Ukrainian Sunday School has operated under the Association of Ukrainian Organizations in Estonia for 26 years. It helps children maintain their connection with Ukraine, learn their native language, discover national traditions and develop their Ukrainian identity.

The moment when the school’s students raised the flag of independent Ukraine with their own hands in the Estonian capital was therefore much more than part of an official ceremony. It was a symbol of remembrance, continuity between generations and responsibility for the future.

Estonia Continues to Stand with Ukraine
Opening the ceremony, Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna emphasised that independence is not merely a date on the calendar. It is a nation’s right to determine its own future and defend its choices, borders and freedom.

The Minister reaffirmed Estonia’s unwavering support for Ukraine and stated that Ukraine’s path towards the European Union and NATO is irreversible. Estonia will continue supporting Ukraine in its struggle for freedom, sovereignty and a just peace. Official statement by the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today, as Ukraine’s defenders continue fighting for the country’s independence, it is especially important to remember for whom we must preserve it—for the generations who will one day inherit Ukraine from us.
